As of July 2018, your website must have a security certificate in order not to be labeled “Not secure” with the Chrome browser version 68.

First, it is important that you know that Google’s Chrome browser is the most widely used in the world. It is used by more than one in two users for web browsing. It is therefore essential that your website is compatible and adapted to this browser.

For a long time, browsers tell us and inform us only when the site visited is secure. As of next July, Google intends to turn things around with version 68 of its Chrome browser. This version of Chrome will instead identify unsafe sites, regardless of their content. By identifying unsafe sites in this way, Google encourages companies, which have not already done so, to obtain a certificate and thus make web browsing safer. We bet that other browsers will opt for this solution in the coming months!

Of course, if you want to comply, the purchase of a security certificate for your website will be inevitable. Generally costing for a standard website between $25 and $50 per year, this amount seems reasonable to reassure your online visitors. Ask your IT consultant or website manager for more details in order to be ready before July 2018.
